QuickTips: The importance of Configuration.xml – This installation requires a compatible Microsoft Office program

Hello Readers

Its time to stress the importance of the Configuration.xml for Office ProPlus, if the configuration.xml is edited into a format that the setup.exe doesn’t understand you will not be able install Office ProPlus on to a client machine. If you are planning to edit the file make sure the below in both present in the .xml otherwise you will run into issues. You can always refer to https://technet.microsoft.com/EN-US/library/jj219426.aspx

<Configuration>

<Add SourcePath=”c:\office365OfficeClientEdition=“64” >
<Product ID=”O365ProPlusRetail”>
<Language ID=”en-us” />
 </Product>
<Product ID=”VisioProRetail”>
<Language ID=”en-us” />
</Product>
  </Add>

<Updates Enabled=”TRUE” UpdatePath=”\\Server\Share\Office\” />

<Display Level=”None” AcceptEULA=”TRUE” />

<Logging Name=”OfficeSetup.txt” Path=”%temp%” />

<Property Name=”AUTOACTIVATE” Value=”1″ />

</Configuration>

I have just ran into an issue where the configuration.xml had been edited and the user was unable to install Office 2016 ProPlus.

Office 2016 1

This issue was caused by <Language ID> line was removed so the configuration.xml looked a bit like this

<Add SourcePath=”c:\office365″ OfficeClientEdition=”64″ >
<Product ID=”O365ProPlusRetail”>
</Product>

Adding the line back into the configuration.xml then allowed the user to successfully install Office 2016 ProPlus without any issues.

Office 2016 2
